Ingredients are water, coconut oil (21%), stabiliser: modified potato starch, coconut cream (8%), salt, vegetable glycerine, natural flavouring, tri-calcium phosphate, acetic acid, colour: carrot juice concentrate, lactic acid, vitamin d2, vitamin b12
Appearance
This is a 150 gram square block of light yellow cheese that looks just like cheddar. This is un-mistakeabley a vegan alternative to cheddar.
Koko have named this cheese, deliciously mellow, maybe to stay clear of any future lawsuits.
For people new to vegan cheese this on first glance looks rather similar to dairy cheese.
Aroma
Has a subtle cheese aroma to it, a very slight coconut tone too but the cheddar tones that you should be expecting as well.
Flavour
This vegan cheese has a mild yet mature cheddar taste to it and it is certainly delicious!
It is an easy going cheese that makes it pairable with almost anything you like. In a sandwich, whether it's on it's own, with salad or with a punchy pickle to make the perfect vegan cheese and pickle sandwich.
It's delightfully mellow tones make it rather moreish and very easy to eat. If you are looking for a staple cheese this is a great contender.
What we like about it, is that it can be bought in most supermarkets throughout the UK too.
Texture
This Koko vegan cheese has a semi firm texture, it is easy to slice through, it doesn't crumble and creates lovely slices great for popping on a cracker, it also grates easily, as the photo and videos above show.
We believe this is a perfect vegan style cheddar cheese you can pop on to bread to make the perfect vegan cheese on toast.
Longevity
This cheese had a best before date of a month after I had bought it suggesting this cheese has quite a long shelf life until openned.
It is recommended not to freeze it and once opened consume within seven days.
Environmental Credentials
The cheese is made from coconut oil and a number of ingredients that are processed. The ingredients are however free of soya, GMOs and artificial colours and preservatives.
The packaging is also plastic film.
Summary
This is a mature yet mellow and easy going cheddar style cheese, if you are looking for a staple cheese to add to your fridge for lunch, snacks or to add to dinner, this is one to check out.
